5. Monte Finestra (1145 m)

Monte Finestra is a fundamental stage of our itinerary to reach the summit at 1145 meters to climb.

The Alta Via path is hard, we do not hide it, but once we get to the top all the effort will be rewarded by a view of the Lattari Mountains , Vesuvius, Picentini Mountains, the Metelliana valley, the Gulf of Salerno and the entire Amalfi Coast .

During the trail you may need to use not only trekking poles, but also your hands to hold on to the twists and turns between the rocks to conquer the summit.

The first one you reach is the summit S ud di Monte Finestra , the path passes right on the point can high near an iron cross, from here you can already admire the fantastic landscape at 360 °. From here the path descends on the side of the valley of sunsets to reach the Forcella Monte Finestra and shortly afterwards in the saddle you can see the hole in the rock < / strong> which gives the name to this mountain. Continuing the path you cross the Malopasso , a very short stretch of the path that runs along the cliff, be very careful and use the rope to cross the stretch. Then, climbing up the rocks, we finally reach the Northern peak of Monte Finestra . Here it is possible to stop at the small refuge and enjoy the view of this majestic queen and the panorama it offers.

Monte Finestra in the past also called monte Pertuso , constitutes the highest peak of the mountain chain of the Avvocata: The toponym originates from a hole at the top, also visible from the center of the city of Cava de ‘Tirreni . The highest peak is the South peak with its 1145 meters, while the north peak, nicknamed “ the telephone “, is 1138 meters high. The saddle of monte window, where the hole is located, is at an altitude of 1065 meters.

The route is used once a year by athletes for the “ Vertikal Monte Finestra “, a really hard and very famous uphill trail in the Campania region.
